Declan’s research investigates how urban planning and policy shapes the economies of cities and regions, with a particular focus on urban industrial areas and land uses. Currently, he is researching the long-term development and geography of Australia’s brewing industry, including the recent emergence of an independent craft brewing sector. In 2022-23, Declan was a post-doctoral research fellow at Monash University. His postdoctoral research investigated the impact of industrial land use planning on urban development over time using digital archival mapping. Declan completed his PhD in November 2021, which examined how urban manufacturers negotiate industrial gentrification in Melbourne and San Francisco.
